Peninsula Business Services, Ireland’s leading employment law consultancy, is running a free workshop to tackle the growing issue of Social Networking in the workplace on Wednesday 8th May 2013 in The Rochestown Park Hotel, Co. Cork. The briefing will commence at 8.45am, finishing at 10.30am.
Given the giant increase in issues related to this topic, the briefing “TIME TO FACE UP TO SOCIAL NETWORKING ISSUES” will advise employers on the current legislation and the use of social media in the workplace. Peninsula’s aim is to educate employers on what procedures they should have in place to ensure their business stays legally compliant. The event will cover the most important aspects of social media, including how to protect your company’s reputation, social networking policies, managing employees access to social networking sites, workplace bullying via social networking, and the impact social networking has on the workplace.
Some common problems encountered by employers include; employees spending too long on social networking sites, employees using social networking sites for workplace bullying and bad mouthing their employers, increase in poor workplace relations, and the danger of sensitive or damaging information being posted online.

A survey conducted by Peninsula in 2012 showed that 67% of Irish employees admitted to checking their social networking sites during work hours, while 73% have admitted to bad mouthing their employers on social networking sites. As a result, social networking has become an increasingly problematic issue for Irish employers.”
